Damon Wells, a native of Paris, Texas, received his BS in Animal Science from Sam Houston State University and completed his education at Texas Tech with a Masters in Agricultural Science. Damon has over twenty years of service in federal agriculture and natural resource policy, serving as professional staff for the Texas Office of State and Federal Relations as well as working for members in both the U.S. House and Senate on a variety of issues. In the U.S. Senate, he served as an advisor to the Chairman of the Agriculture Committee on livestock, poultry, food safety, and conservation issues; in the House, Wells worked for and specialized in Energy and Water Appropriations for a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
Before joining the firm, Wells served as the Senior Vice President of Government Relations at the National Turkey Federation (NTF). In this role, he oversaw and implemented all aspects of the Federation’s legislative affairs program, including policy formulation, development, and advocacy on Capitol Hill. While at NTF, Damon developed strong skills in international market development. In addition, Wells assisted with expanding and more clearly targeting campaign contribution strategy to align with and to promote NTF’s mission. Wells was also instrumental in standing up the NTF Foundation with the goals of improving education, research, and charitable opportunities on behalf of the industry.
Wells’ demonstrated his value to the industry through his work with government entities and industry during the devastating High Path Avian Influenza outbreak of 2015 and 2016. His contributions played a significant role in developing a broad response plan which negotiated streamlined protocols to mitigate the impacts of the disease both domestically and globally.
Wells also has experience handling federal government relations for Texas A&M University system.
In his free time, Wells is an active hunter, golfer, and NASCAR fan.
