Honorable Morris L. Overstreet
Judge Morris L. Overstreet was the first African American elected to statewide office in the history of Texas in 1990 when he was elected to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. He provides more than 45 years of experience in the public and private sector as an attorney, businessman, First Assistant District Attorney, Trial Judge, Appellate Judge and Law School Professor. Through the firm’s Austin and Washington, D.C. offices, Judge Overstreet provides clients with his unique and unmatched experience in a broad range of state and federal regulatory and legislative areas.
Experience
Judge Overstreet provides an extensive background in a variety of legal areas. He has served as Chair of the Judicial Council of the National Bar Association, President and Chair of the Board of the Auxiliary to the National Medical Association and Legal Counsel to the National Baptist and Texas State Baptist Conventions.
A close ally of former President William Jefferson Clinton, Judge Overstreet has also been involved in the presidential campaigns of President Jimmy Carter, President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden as well as former Texas Governors Mark White and Ann W. Richards.
